One lovely summer’s day I went to The Orchard Tea Rooms in Granchester with my son. Apple Sky is inspired by memories of sitting under the old apple trees in deckchairs, with the sun on our faces, under a perfectly blue sky (eating a huge piece of cake). The boughs of the trees were heavy with fruit; reminiscent of shapes seen in Japanese prints, which I think comes across in this piece. I was really interested in playing with the effects I could achieve overlapping colours; creating a sense of dappled shade.
Due to the nature of hand printing there will be some minor differences between prints.
